Hawes Family Update--May 27, 2007

--- God is meeting our needs ---
God showed us again this past week that He loves us and that He is taking care of us. I had been trying to meet up with another missionary, Kevin Barnhart, here in Kyiv for the last month in order to pass along some funds needed for a Bible Colleges our mission is working with. Schedules finally came together and we had a chance to meet this week. Jody, Kevin's wife Emma and their kids also came along. What a blessing it was for us to meet Kevin and Emma and their family. They were a great encouragement to us in ways they probably didn't even know. Their veteran missionary wisdom and experience as well as their like mindedness to us were very helpful and refreshing.
Also Kevin told us that the SEND Language school was just a few blocks away. This is one of the options that we have been considering to continue our language studies. Kevin took us over to see it first hand, and to make a long story short, we have an appointment this week to see where we are in our Russian, so they can see where we would fit in at the school in the fall. To be honest the language school had fallen off our radar and it was good that we made contact with them when we did. This coming week is their last week until the fall. It would have been difficult to make arrangement if we hadn't made contact when we did. God was looking after us and guiding us.
We still have a lot of questions and possibilities to work through as we decide what we are doing for the kids schooling, our language studies, and whether that means we need to move to a different part of town. But this past week was a reminder that God is in control. Please keep these things in your prayers.

Here are some more things to be praying about:
- The political situation in Ukraine escalated again this week as the President and Prime Minister struggle for control. Please pray for a peaceful and positive resolution to the political struggles in Ukraine. Here is a link to a story on what been happening.

- Please pray for us as we try to adjust to summer in Kyiv. Yes it seems like we skipped spring and went straight to summer. We have had temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90's for the past couple weeks.
- This week is the last week at Kiev Christian Academy for Josiah and Elena. Please pray that they finish off the year well.
- Please also be praying for Jody's health. She has been going through a cleansing detoxification process that can make you feel worse before you feel better. The last time she did this the effect wasn't too noticeable, but this time the effect is much stronger and is lasting longer. The hot weather isn't helping any either. Please pray that the effects will end soon and for positive results from the process.

Baseball anyone?
Please forgive us, but as proud parents we just had to share this with everyone. Here is a link to some video highlights of Josiah's baseball game last Wednesday. This is his first season playing baseball and he has come a long way. Wednesday's game marked his brightest moment all season--his first hit--and then his second!
