Hawes Family Update--January 16, 2008

--- "What a difference a year makes" ---
Last year at this time, we were living in Pennsylvania making our final preparations to leave for Ukraine. We were very excited about embarking on this new adventure.
Here we are, a year later, living in Ukraine. We are very glad to be here, under His care and making progress. Our move to this side of town has been great for us all. We are a 10-minute walk from our church, very close to public transportation, and have more stores and outdoor markets nearby. Those are all very important when you don't have a car. My language school is going well and now Jody is taking classes part-time, too. Jody has also been blessed to be working with the English Club in Brovary once a month and she is making new friends there and with other believers she has met. Josiah is making new friends in the neighborhood and has been a great help to the family running errands. He hasn't let a new language and culture hold him back. We've also been able to find our way to getting a new prosthetic for Elena without a lot of trouble, which was a huge answer to prayer. We have started a new therapy to help Elena neurologically, which should help her in many ways that are very important for her development. We spent Christmas Day in the village of Babintsy worshiping with the folks there and visiting the local orphanage to take them some gifts the folks from First Baptist Church sent from America. Jody spent a wonderful New Years in a village with 30 other believers fellowshipping and worshiping all night. These are just some of the things God has done to show us He is with us.
We don't want you to think we have been without problems. It hasn't always been easy. Satan has discouraged us with lies and subtle tricks. We need your prayers and support every day. We thank God for all that you have done on our behalf. God's blessings and mercies are evident when we stop and open our eyes to see them. We know we could not be here without either one of you. It is our privilege to serve our Lord here in Ukraine.

Here are some more things to be praying about:
- Praise God! Jody is in language school. There was an opening at the SEND language school and now Jody has class two days a week. Please pray for us as we learn Russian.
- February 3-6, I will be in Germany for an eDOT strategic planning meeting. Please pray as our team listens for God's guidance in the plans for eDOT's ministries.
- Elena has begun neurological therapy aimed at healing her mind from 7 years of institutionalization. Please pray this goes well.
- Pray as plans are coming together for ministry events this year, especially teams coming from America. We would love to be able to work with all of them as they minister with their sister churches.
Thank you for your prayers,
Andrew Hawes
